About the Event
A 170-metre alley revitalised into a healthy community place. A community-based arts program. 100 local residents. A local place-making social enterprise. A team of Australian creatives. 1000 paper flowers ‘planted’. Enhanced pride of place. The Yangon Alley Garden Exhibition celebrates the cultural heritage and street life of Downtown Yangon through drawings, stories, photographs, and an installation.
ABOUT THE FACILITATORS
SpatialCo, based in Western Australia, is a creative practice operating in two parts – as service provider and as researcher – exploring the application of emerging technologies. Marina Lommerse is a Fremantle based artist and educator. Doh Eain is a place-making social enterprise based in Yangon, Myanmar. They specialise in heritage, public space and social activities to create liveable, inclusive, and sustainable places. A key project is the Alley Gardens program. They recognised that these abandoned spaces could provide much needed public space in the downtown area of Yangon. Since 2015 Doh Eain has transformed thirteen alleys into creative, lively, and healthy places.
