"You’ll never be as young as you are today"- Rand Rusher |
As always at the end of the year, I find myself reflecting on the future. Rand’s statement feels like a call to action to appreciate what I have right now, and for me that’s true on many levels. I’m revelling in time with family and friends: meaningful conversations, shared moments, laughter, and exploring new ideas and places. I’m also planning more active trips into nature and leaning into creativity, including working on a new Canadian painting series.  I wonder what’s been on your mind lately... |
Hanging in Freo  Jack and I are spending the summer in Freo, enjoying the garden, cycling, swimming and plenty of coffee. Feel free to drop in, or let’s go for a walk, a swim, or some more coffee. I need to keep moving to stay ski-ready!  I’m meeting my nephew Max in Japan mid-January to ski, ski, ski. Since Hokkaido is renowned for its deep and fluffy powder snow, I’m getting into shape with pilates, swimming and cycling after a decade away from the slopes.  Anyone interested in line dancing? My friend Nancy and I are about to start going. |
Some memories of skiing Japan in Dream Year 2014... |
Canada creative  Recently I spent 88 days in Canada, which resulted in 95 drawings and paintings. I hadn’t done much watercolour for a couple of years, so I decided to warm up by following a ‘How to paint flowers’ book by one of my favourite watercolour artists, Charles Reid. Being at the lake and surrounded by nature, I felt constantly inspired. |

After working through the book, I expanded my subjects to the late-summer native flora in bloom, as well as the local wildlife and landscapes. |

A bushy-tailed fox patrolling the shoreline, bluejays, crows, squirrels and chipmunks lining up for my peanut offerings on the deck, and the magnificent light and skyscapes at dawn and dusk all found their way into my work. |

Secreted in an attic in Fremantle... |
Are my 2,000 handmade paper flowers from my Language of Flowers installation series. Their most recent outing was for a photoshoot, and I’m delighted that they grace the cover of Femme Magazine’s October 2025 edition. |

Inspirational book: Creating Black Cockatoo Friendly Suburbs by Christine Groom |

Carnaby’s cockatoos, familiar for their loud calls and charming personalities, are a beloved part of Perth’s suburbs but their numbers are declining due to habitat loss. Creating Black Cockatoo Friendly Suburbs offers practical guidance for planners, gardeners, and nature enthusiasts to design habitats that support these birds, helping secure their future while also making suburbs greener, cooler, and more biodiverse. |
My mural  'Carnaby’s Food Forest’ in Florence Community Park, South Fremantle is featured in the book in Chapter 13: Under Community Involvement and Education. |

The mural is a reminder of the importance of providing food sources for our precious birdlife. Completed in 2016, it reflects my artistic journey of celebrating nature and the characters we love encountering on our travels. Â This detail is available as part of a Limited Edition series of 50 prints. To discover more, please visit my Website Catalogue. |
